Samadhi Ling is a wilderness retreat and forest refuge of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. We are committed to spiritual ecology, the practice of meditation, and embracing all faith traditions to join us in ceremony. Our land is situated just outside the village of Baddeck in the heart of Unamaki, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia Canada. The land is within the Bras D’Or Lakes Biosphere reserve and on the unceded ancestral lands of the Mi’kmaq First Nations. >more
The Annual Smoke Offering puja is a Tibetan Vajrayana ritual to purify the environment. This annual event was initiated by Khenpo Karma Tenkyong in 2017 during his first visit to our forested land on Cape Breton Island.
Our smoke offering ritual is called Riwo Sangcho, ‘Mountain Smoke Purification Offering’, and involves the burning of aromatic substances. It is classified as a Terma—a text concealed by Guru Padmasambhava for discovery in a future era—and was revealed by the 17th-century Tibetan yogi, Lhatsum Namkha Jigme.
The puja involves the burning of aromatic substances to dispel negativity, harmonize the surroundings, purify obstacles and foster spiritual well-being for all beings seen and unseen. Our Mi’kmaq brothers and sisters often join in this ceremony. >more
